Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will have to have knee surgery and could be out for the rest of the season after picking up an injury while playing for Paris Saint-Germain against Barcelona.
The 25-year-old Georgia international damaged his knee in PSG’s 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona on Tuesday and was taken off the field just before the hour mark.
Kvaratskhelia could not put weight on his leg, which raised immediate alarm bells that it was a serious injury.
The injury is a huge blow for the two-time Champions League winners who are looking for a third straight Champions League crown. PSG are now top of the competition’s group stage table with three wins from three matches.

The 25-year-old scored 10 times and assisted a further six en route to helping the club win the European title last season. The winger’s exploits also earned him a spot on the 2026 Ballon d’Or nominations.
Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos also picked up knocks in the PSG victory over Barcelona.
Dembele, the current Ballon d’Or winner, was replaced in the 19th minute after suffering a thigh problem while defender Marquinhos also picked up a similar injury.
The club said both players would be treated for the next few weeks.
In Ligue 1, PSG are currently second in the table and will travel to top of the table Lyon on Sunday as they aim to continue their pursuit of the title, despite injury issues.
