A Nigerian woman, Ifeoluwa Bamidele, who allegedly burnt her husband to death has committed suicide, according to the police.
The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, disclosed that the suicide happened on Thursday evening. Reports had it that Ifeoluwa allegedly set Bolu Bamidele on fire on allegations of cheating at their house in Koka community.
Bamidele sustained severe injuries from burn and he had to be rushed to the hospital in Osogbo whereafter he was referred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, where he died on Tuesday, July 16.
The state police command has reported that the woman fled to Ekiti to hide after the incident and two lawyers from a Catholic group in Osogbo Justice Development and Peacemaker Centre confessed that Ifeoluwa had dialed them from her hideout.
Opalola disclosed that the lawyers told him that they had Ifeoluwa’s number and that they had persuaded her to not commit suicide.
The police spokesman said that the Catholic group sent the deceased transport fare to come to Osogbo and that Ifeoluwa’s movements were being monitored through the phone conversation. When Ifeoluwa finally agreed to come back home around 6 pm, she did not see any vehicles going to Osogbo, but she however saw the ones going to Ilesa.
The lawyers asked her to board the Ilesa vehicle. When she finally arrived at her destination, she confessed to the lawyers that she had drunk sniper before arriving. She was quickly rushed to the hospital in Ilesa but it was too late by then.
