A new case of the dreaded, rapidly spreading Monkey-pox disease has been recorded in Abia State, totaling the number of confirmed cases to four, so far recorded in the state according to a Ministry source.

The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Joe Osuji, who affirmed this in an interview on Tuesday, added that the patient had been treated and the rashes on the patient’s skin were rapidly clearing. The Commissioner reported that the newest case was recorded in Amuzukwu Community in Umuahia North Local Government Area. This is different from the three previous cases that had been recorded in Aba North, Umuahia South, and Ikwuano LGAs according to the state Commissioner.

Dr. Osuji this past Thursday, stated that five samples had been taken to the reference laboratory in Abuja for investigation. He made this known while responding to the previous cases. He added that all the contact cases had been treated and discharged from the hospital.

Residents have been asked to desist from worrying about the virus but should task themselves on environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene.

“If you see any person with any kind of rashes around you, endeavor to isolate yourself from the suspected person and ask the person to report to the hospital for investigation and treatment”. Dr. Osuji finished.
