In Nigeria, the usual heavy rainfall is normally preceded by wind storms; however, the recent rain that happened in Kano was devastating as it left a lot of destruction in its wake.

The residents and farmers in Ungwan Malikawa, Ajingi Local Government of Kano State, had gone about with their normal chores on Wednesday evening, as there was no sign of any impending rainfall.

For almost two days, that is about 40 hours, the rain fell without break. This led to the indigenes of Toranke, Kara Malama, Chuna, and Balare in Ajingi LGA losing some of their loved ones, farmlands, crops, farm produce and residential and public property at a time.

At the time of this report, no less than three persons, including a four-year-old girl, were confirmed dead, while 495 houses were allegedly damaged in the process.

A grieving father, Dayyabu Abdullahi, from Ungwan Malikawa, was anguished by the news of his daughter’s death. His daughter had been killed after a two-room building fell on her.

“The incident happened on Wednesday evening. There was no wind. It was heavy rain that lasted for over 40 hours,” Dayyabu Abdullahi had said.
