The National Executive Council, -NEC, meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will be held this upcoming Monday to deliberate on the offers by the Federal Government for the ongoing strike to end.
The meeting had vowed to be a decisive one and maybe the deciding meeting that will determine if the government would ban the academic union as it is being as sinuated.
An anonymous member of the NEC has revealed in confidence that whatever the decision of the union would be, it would be in the best interest of the university academic system. But, when the National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, was asked, he reported that the union was yet to officially get an offer from the FG side.
It has additionally been revealed that the coming NEC meeting could make the Federal Government clamp down on the union if the strike persists.
Remember that the union has been on strike since February 14 and the ongoing strike had been extended, for four additional weeks that would hopefully dissolve next Monday.
The Non-teaching staff, under the aegis of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, -SSANU and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Allied Institutions, -NASU, have called off their industrial actions and are marked to resume work tomorrow.
If the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, meeting set to hold on Thursday comes out successful, it will leave ASUU as the only university staff union still on strike.
