Paris Saint-Germain won 3-0 against Toulouse on Wednesday to maintain their lead in the early Ligue 1 standings thanks to goals from Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
The defending champions of Christophe Galtier never felt really threatened by their newly promoted rivals, and they continue to hold a goal differential advantage over Lens and Marseille. 18 goals have been scored this season by the dangerous front three of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe.
Maxime Dupe, Toulouse’s goalkeeper, made two deft stops of Kylian Mbappe’s shots early in the game while also deflecting a Lionel Messi shot wide. But in the 37th minute, Neymar pounced on Messi’s through the cross and scored for the visitors, giving them the lead. The decision to initially disallow the Brazilian’s eighth goal of the campaign for offside was reversed following a thorough VAR review.
After the break, PSG quickly added another goal thanks to a quick break by Messi into the area and a pass from him to Mbappe, who buried the ball between Dupe’s legs. Later in the second half, the capital team slowed down, and Messi and Neymar were both replaced.
The signing of Hugo Ekitike came close to scoring his first goal for the team, but Dupe stopped him. Dupe finished the game with 10 stops. But Juan Bernat’s powerful left-footed shot into the top corner in the 90th minute gave him another defeat.
