As part of its strategic interaction with clients through its franchise network, Eko Electricity Distribution Company has gotten to know the Lagos Islands neighborhood and its surroundings.

Residents from the surrounding areas of Ikoyi, Lagos Island, and Victoria Island attended the forum on Thursday.

Godwin Idemudia, general manager of corporate communications for EKEDC said the Island District is crucial to our company, hence the necessity of the engagement forum to allow the management to identify areas of enhancing power supply to the customers,” said

The customers at the meeting brought up the issue of how supply in their communities is affected by outdated and overburdened distribution infrastructure while applauding EKEDC for recent improvements in power supply and turnaround time to clear faults.

Numerous Lagos Island residents requested assistance from the Disco after reporting difficulties brought on by faulty subterranean cables and overloaded transformers.

In response to questions from customers, Dr. Tinuade Sanda, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EKEDC, who was present in person through Chief Commercial Officer Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh, explained that the network’s weak and aging cables were a result of buildings being built on top of them, which made it challenging to perform repairs.

But she added that EKEDC was coming up with new strategies to deal with this problem.

She reassured the clients that the company was working to provide relief distribution transformers to numerous regions under the Islands District as part of its ongoing project improvements in relation to the overloaded transformer.

Speaking at the forum, Mr. Ishola Olaitan, Divisional Crime Officer, Ikoyi Police Divisional Headquarters, informed attendees that the recent wave of vandalism in Ikoyi and Lagos Island also contributed to the damage to cables.

He urged the clients to use the Police Force’s and EKEDC’s whistleblower platforms to report criminal activity in order to help the two organizations reduce crime.
