The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammad Abubakar, on Tuesday, reported that Nigeria was not experiencing food shortages under President Muhammadu Buhari’s watch.

The minister had remarked at a press conference held in Abuja as part of the activities heralding the 2022 World Food Day scheduled for October 16.

Presently, Nigerians are suffering on account of an acute food shortage with the cost of staple foods and other items skyrocketing madly.

However, Abubakar had said: “We don’t have any food shortages in Nigeria as of yet, but yes prices have risen, and this is a world phenomenon. But there are no food shortages. These days the reminder is for people to eat mindfully and consider that millions of people are unable to afford one meal for themselves.

“Nigeria and the rest of the globe will continue to tackle multiple crises which include conflicts, displacement, economic shocks, escalating food prices, climate change, and other man-made factors, but we do not have food insecurity.” Abubakar finished his statement.
