Food and other supplies have been given out by the federal government to those in Sokoto State who have been affected by the flood calamity.

During the presentation of the item to the State Government, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, director general of the National Emergency Management Agency, stated that it was consistent with the assessment made and the reports provided to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.

He stated that recent flooding disasters in numerous states, including Sokoto, have caused fatalities, evictions, the loss of livelihoods, and socioeconomic disruption.

He stated that the release of 12,000 metric tonnes of varied cereals from the National Strategic Reserve Stock for distribution to all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has been authorized by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

He itemized the dispersed goods, which included 3,320 bags of 50 kg of maize, 2,840 bags of 50 kg of sorghum, and 1,250 bags of 50 kg of millet.

The Director-General acknowledged that NEMA, an agency of the Federal Government, is unable to provide catastrophe victims with compensation.

In his welcome speech earlier, Aliyu Shehu Kafin Dangi, Head of Operations, NEMA Zonal Office, stated that the organization has consistently collaborated with the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency to conduct damages and loss assessments to direct relief interventions for people in need of assistance.

Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the governor of the state, who was represented by Mainasara Ahmed, the secretary to the state government, pledged to wisely distribute the relief supplies to the state’s most needy residents.
