The Anambra State Government has debunked reports about a state-wide ban on lottery and betting activities in the state.

This was announced through a statement issued on Saturday, October 22 by Mr. Don Onyenji, the Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism in Awka.

He further asked the business operators to disregard the information making rounds that the Anambra government had placed a ban on their activities in the state and to carry on their businesses as allowed by the extant law.

According to the commissioner, all the Hotel Owners and Bars in the State had been invited to a meeting to discuss security and other services and policy issues.

“However, it is grossly unfortunate that some mischief makers added lottery and Betting activities and organizations to the ban.” Onyenji had said.

He declared that the State government, excluding all other betting establishments in the state, hereby explicitly states that the suspension was exclusively directed at Casino Games operators in the hotels and hospitality companies.

Onyenji additionally stated that the government had traced the owners of the specific gambling machine and is moving on with its inquiries into the complaint of suspected fraudulent practices, lack of transparency, and non-payment of Game winnings to players.

The websites mentioned in the complaint had momentarily turned off their equipment and as soon as all guarantees to safeguard the interests of all game players are made, the organization will be able to immediately resume its operations.
