Aviation Union Protests Illegal Dismissal of Workers Leaving Passengers Stranded at the Airpor

In a bid to prevent the airlines from running their early morning flights, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria -ATSSSAN union had allegedly stationed themselves at the critical entrances leading to the terminal building as early as 6 am today, November 1st.

Numerous passengers who had plans to board the early-morning flights out of the private terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State, are currently stranded because of the blockade leading to the terminal by the aviation unions. This was solely in protest of the termination of 37 workers by the terminal management, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited.

Reports had it that the union had tagged the sack of its members as witch-hunting and wilful intimidation, reporting that rather than implementing the terms of service agreed upon with the union in 2021, the BASL administration had resorted to sacking its members in its creation.

According to the union, the workers had been sacked on Friday, October 29 through e-mails that were sent to their different boxes, completely disregarding the rule of law after they had been sent on a compulsory leave of absence for 10 days.
