The Lagos State branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has announced that it will monitor the trial of ASP Drambi Vandi, the policeman that brutally shot and killed Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem in Lagos on Christmas Day.

The association will also be pressing for monetary compensation for the family of the deceased by the relevant government agencies. This was revealed in a press statement released by a Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN.

Mrs. Raheem had been shot in the Ajah area of Lagos inside her car while she was returning from an outing with her family on Christmas day.

In Adegboruwa’s statement issued on Thursday, 29 December, he stated that Mr. Ikechukwu Uwana, the Chairman of the NBA in Lagos, to which Mrs. Raheem had belonged before her death, had asked him to lead the team of lawyers of the NBA to monitor the trial of the killer cop.

Adegboruwa had also urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to follow the model that he adopted during the EndSARS Judicial Panel period, and pay compensation to the family of Mrs. Raheem immediately ‘since it is already established that her life was terminated illegally by a policeman’.
