The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control announced that it has purchased 43 Truscan scanning devices costing a total of $2,451,000 to monitor the quantity and quality of medications produced and imported into the nation.
In addition, it stated that as part of a new commitment to facilitate the international commerce of pharmaceuticals developed in Nigeria, it will achieve World Health Organization Maturity Level 4 and World Listed Authority Status by the first quarter of 2024.
A TruScan is a portable tool used for on-the-spot drug fraud detection. It enables regulators and law enforcement officials to conduct on-the-spot checks of pharmaceutical samples to rapidly and effectively detect fakes. At a news conference conducted on Wednesday in Abuja, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director General of NAFDAC, revealed this.
She claims that the new plan will also allow the agency to get Vaccine Lot Release ML4 and strategically position Nigeria for the manufacture of vaccines.
Adeyeye also revealed that more than 140 new utility vehicles were purchased for inspections and other purposes, along with more than N5 billion in lab equipment.
