The Civil society South-East stakeholders’ meeting participants on the 2023 general
elections in Enugu State have expressed disappointment over the inactivity of certain INEC officials whom they accused of failing in the discharge of their duties.
The participants, while speaking at the forum alleged that at various Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) distribution centers across the Southeast region, several eligible voters could not easily obtain their cards despite several visits to the distribution centers.
They had then called on the management of the electoral body in the region, to use the one-week deadline extension for the distribution exercise to ensure that no voter was disenfranchised as a result of the lackadaisical actions of its officers.
The participants also commended the electoral body, INEC for ensuring compliance
with the schedules on the electoral processes so far, while asking the Commission to
ensure that all votes count at the 2023 polls in Nigeria.
Heads of the security agencies in the South East who were participants in the
stakeholder’s meeting had given their assurance of their readiness to provide effective security before, during, and after the elections.
