The aviation workers on Monday, January 23, staged a protest over the poor quality of service and the failure of the management of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc to increase their monthly salaries.
This protest had led to disruptions with international flights being the most affected.
Crowds were seen at the passenger check-in counters as flight operations were halted for the airlines that were serviced by the company.
Recall that this is not the first time air passengers have been affected by the different contending issues at airports in the country.
In September 2022, SaharaReporters made a report that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was scheming to bar aviation workers in the country from embarking on strike.
And a provision in a copy of the recently amended Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria Act clearly states that aviation workers could not declare a strike action regardless of the situation.
The Act declared that aviation workers were essential personnel and not permitted to go on strike.
The affected airports were Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.
