The Edo State administration reports 13 deaths from 115 Lassa fever cases in the state.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, January 28 in Benin, the state Commissioner for Health, Akoria Obehi, revealed that eight more instances of Lassa fever had been detected, bringing the state’s total number of confirmed cases to 115.

According to Obehi, the state has documented one more death from the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 13.

The commissioner emphasized that the administration is working to eradicate the disease in all areas around the state.

According to her, 40 people are currently being treated at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, including 26 adults and 14 children.

The commissioner stated that, while the state is properly prepared and equipped to manage reported instances of Lassa fever, citizens must take precautionary measures to supplement the government’s efforts by adhering to all established protocols to prevent the spread of the disease.

She also asked individuals who were having symptoms including severe headaches, vomiting, and high fever to go to the nearest healthcare facility for diagnosis and treatment.

Similarly, she recommended individuals who had contact with proven Lassa fever patients or suspected any signs call disease monitoring or notification officers in their local governments.
