Mrs. Abiola Bawuah has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UBA Africa, according to a Monday announcement from the board of directors of Africa’s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa Plc.

In addition, Bawuah will become an executive director on the group board, in charge of managing the firm’s operations outside of Nigeria across the entire continent of Africa. In addition to its global operations in New York, London, Paris, and the United Arab Emirates, UBA also operates in 19 other African nations.

The first female CEO of UBA Africa is a Ghanaian national named Bawuah. Her hiring serves as more evidence of UBA’s dedication to diversity. Eight female directors are now on the UBA Group Board.

Bawuah held the position of Regional CEO for West Africa before being hired, managing operations in nine subsidiaries of the Group, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Libya, Mali, Senegal, and Sierra Leone. She had been the CEO of UBA Ghana previously.

Along with those senior positions, The UBA Group also announced: At UBA West Africa, Chris Ofikulu is appointed Regional CEO. Ofikulu has more than two decades of experience in banking in the corporate, commercial, and retail sectors.
