Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president, has once more pledged to take the initiative in resetting and retooling Nigeria to transform it from a consumer society to a productive one.
Hours after the movement had a large rally in Abuja, Obi provided the promise in a series of tweets yesterday as part of his message to inform Nigeria’s electorate about the crucial presidential election.
This is in line with what Obi said when asked why he visits markets for campaigns yesterday. He said he is drawn to markets because they serve as hubs for small and medium-sized businesses, which are the backbone of the Nigerian economy, as well as places for production, manufacturing, and distribution.
Obi assured Nigerians that if elected, he and his running mate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmad would bring about the comprehensive reform needed to move Nigeria forward.
Obi added that the transformation he and Datti will pursue if elected would be comprehensive.
As for why he goes to markets for campaigns, Obi said yesterday that he is drawn to them because they are hubs for small and medium-sized businesses, which are the backbone of the Nigerian economy, as well as places for production, manufacturing, and distribution.
Earlier today, Obi began a public tour of the Lagos Trade Fair Complex’s markets. A key component of Obi’s campaign is production.
If elected president, he has often stated that he would shift Nigeria’s economy from one of consumption to one of production.
The LP candidate stated that turning our marketplaces into the hub of economic activity would be the easiest method to carry out this plan of action. Obi, who loves to refer to himself as a trader, claimed that because he is a member of the business world, he gets along well with them.
