According to the World Health Organization, 270 people have now died and 2,600 have been injured as a result of the violence that erupted in Sudan on Saturday.
Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, the organization’s director general, announced this on Tuesday during a virtual press conference.
The two leading generals of Sudan engaged in fighting over the weekend, trapping millions of people in the process.
However, in response to multiple requests for the fighting to stop, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have agreed to a ceasefire that will last for 24 hours.
He claims that the lack of freedom of movement has made it difficult for ambulances and medical personnel to access treatment facilities and put more lives at risk.
The head of WHO urged all parties to guarantee unhindered and secure access to medical facilities for those who have been hurt and for everyone else who requires medical attention.
