The deteriorated Ogoni axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State would be repaired, the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired), announced on Friday.

In the Wiiyaakara community, Khana Local Government Area of the state, Buhari gave his approval during the groundbreaking of three projects: the “Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration,” “Ogoni Specialist Hospital,” and “Ogoni Power Project.”

The President said the ceremony was a continuation of the fulfillment of the promises he made to the Ogoni people when he visited the region to campaign before the 2015 elections. The ceremony was virtually conducted from Abuja and broadcast live at the venue.

He claimed that the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, founded by the Federal Government under his direction, was in charge of managing the cleanup of locations affected by crude oil in the Ogoni community.

In addition to establishing the HYPREP, Buhari claimed that his administration also invested a significant amount of money in building the multibillion-naira Bonny-Bodo Road, which when finished will connect the East-West Road and further the socioeconomic progress of Ogoni.

Buhari was pleased with the level of development in various granted projects that will affect the Ogoni people’s quality of life.

The Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration, the Livelihood Program, and the Potable Water Schemes will all be maintained by the Ogoni Power Project, he said, adding that the Specialist Hospital Projects will also advance the socioeconomic development of the region by generating employment opportunities for artisans and accelerating entrepreneurial endeavors.

While thanking Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for his support of the Federal Government, particularly for the relative peace in Ogoni land and Rivers State, Buhari expressed optimism that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, would build on his accomplishments.

Because Bola Tunibu will continue to work on the initiatives that will help him succeed, the President urged the Ogoni and other residents of the Niger Delta to support the incoming administration.
