Mrs. Abigail Marshall Katung, a 47-year-old Nigerian living in the United Kingdom (UK), has been elected to represent Little London and Woodhouse Ward in the 2023 Leeds City Council elections for the second time.

Mrs. Katung is the wife of Barr, a newly elected Nigerian Senator. Marshall Katung was re-elected in the just-ended May 4th local elections in England, United Kingdom, on Sunday.

According to a statement made on Saturday, Tom Riordan, the Returning Officer of the Elections, reported that Mrs. Katung received 1,908 votes to win the race.

She campaigned and won the election on the Labour and Co-operative Party platform. She defeated her Green Party challenger, Mr. Lalvani Nick, who received 437 votes, as well as three other candidates.

It should be noted that Mrs. Abigail Marshall Katung ran for and won the election in her first attempt in May 2019. She won the Elected Member for Little London and Woodhouse Ward of Leeds City Council with 1,749 votes, beating out five other candidates.

The re-elected Councillor is now the Chair of the Scrutiny Board for Adults, Health and Active Lifestyle, the Chair of the Hate Crime Strategic Board, the Chair of the Strategic Board for Further Education 14-19yrs, and the Lead Member for Faith and Religion.

Mrs. Marshall Katung promised to continue advocating for affordable, healthy, and nutritious food for all, as well as to combat climate change.

The re-elected Councillor has also vowed in her five-point agenda to push for safer communities, combat hate crime and anti-social behavior, advocate for a reduction in health inequalities, and to encourage an active lifestyle.

Councillor Marshall, who has committed to pushing against government cuts and rising living costs, is the son of Nigerian parents from Kaduna State’s southern region.
