The Ondo State Government has currently demolished no less than 40 residential buildings located along Akure-Owo-Ilesha Expressway in Akure, the state capital.
According to reports, the demolition had begun on Sunday, May 14 and it will affect an estimated 100 buildings in the locality.
While speaking on the development on Monday, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi, the state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, stated that the demolition was being carried out in a bid to reclaim the government’s property already in the possession of certain land grabbers.
According to Fagbemi, the government could not keep on folding its hands and look on as its land continues being encroached upon by unscrupulous elements and land grabbers.
Mrs. Fagbemi then went on to describe the ongoing demolition as the first phase and announced that anywhere such impunity was observed would be visited to bar Akure from becoming an unplanned city.
