Two EFCC officers face possible dismissal over a dispute on suspect’s items

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has voluntarily handed over two police officers to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for investigation and possible dismissal over a dispute over the belongings of a detained suspect. The dispute led to the killing of a cadet.

 EFCC Chairman Abdul Rashid Bawa announced at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Bawa, the officer died on May 7, 2023, at Ousmanu Danfodillo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, having been treated for injuries sustained in a scuffle with two other staff members two days earlier. The officers are EFCC Assistant Superintendent Apata Olwaseun Odunayo and EFCC Inspector Ogubuji Titu Tochukwu.

 The EFCC chief said through anti-corruption agency spokesman Wilson Wujaren that the two officials were likely to face dismissal if they were found to have violated the EFCC’s founding law.
