The LP presidential candidate Peter Obi, has convinced the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, to postpone further proceedings on the case he filed, seeking to challenge the outcome of the presidential election that held on February 25.

Obi, through his team of lawyers led by Prof. Awa Kalu, SAN, on Wednesday, May 31 had informed the court that two of his key staff members, suddenly fell sick, affecting his plan to present vital documents before the court to prove his allegation that the February 25 presidential election was rigged in favour of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.

Justice Harina Tsammani, Obi’s lawyer had informed the five-member panel that he had, prior to the commencement of the sitting, informed President Tinubu’s lead counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, about the development.

Chief Olanipekun, SAN, had responded to the update by telling the court that he was not opposed to the request for an adjournment.

Likewise, Mr. Abubakar Mahmood, SAN, who appeared for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the counsel for the APC, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had equally not opposed the adjournment.

However, the respondents had asked the court to remove a day from the three weeks that was originally given for Obi to present his case.

In a brief ruling, Justice Tsammani agreed to the application and adjourned the petition till Thursday, June 1st.
