Prime Minister Rishi Sunak revealed on Monday that his strategy to prevent migrants from arriving in Britain via small boats has resulted in a 20% decrease in crossings. Sunak’s announcement is aimed at assuaging criticism from within his party and the wider public regarding the nation’s immigration policy.

Sunak has made a firm commitment to “stop the boats” as one of his five key pledges to the country since assuming office in October of the previous year.

However, Sunak has faced reproach from his party members and citizens alike for what some perceive as a lack of prompt action. Concerns were raised particularly regarding the accommodation of migrants in hotels after a record number of arrivals were recorded in Britain last year.

Additionally, Sunak highlighted a successful agreement with Albania that has facilitated the repatriation of a greater number of migrants to their home country.

“We’ve now returned 1,800 to Albania in just six months. We’ve gone from accepting around one in five Albanian asylum cases, to now just one in 50″ Sunak explained.

Furthermore, he noted a significant decline of nearly 90% in the number of small boat arrivals from Albania so far this year.
