Frequently, we hear promises from both federal and state governments about job creation and youth empowerment. Unfortunately, more often than not, these promises are either unfulfilled or only partially implemented.

Recently, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, proclaimed his commitment to transforming Taraba youths into job creators rather than job seekers. During the inaugural Taraba State Youths, Economic, and Security Summit held at the Gym Hall of Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, Kefas expressed his belief that the youth are the driving force behind the future of any society. He acknowledged the presence of vibrant and dynamic young individuals in Taraba, brimming with creativity, energy, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

While acknowledging the numerous challenges hindering the state’s progress, Kefas recognized that every challenge presents an opportunity. In light of this, he promised to steer his administration in a new direction, benefiting the entire population of the state. His goals include empowering the youth, fostering economic prosperity, and ensuring the safety and security of the people.

Kefas outlined several strategies his administration intends to implement. These include creating a conducive environment for entrepreneurship and innovation, investing in vocational training and skill development programs, and promoting mentorship initiatives. By equipping young people with the necessary tools to thrive in the modern economy, the governor aims to unlock their potential and enable them to become job creators instead of job seekers. Additionally, Kefas acknowledges the pivotal role of infrastructure development in driving economic growth. As such, his administration will focus on improving critical sectors such as agriculture, tourism, education, and healthcare to attract investors to the state.
Kefas said: “We will work hard to empower our youths, promote economic prosperity, and ensure the safety and security of our people.”

“We will also create the enabling environment that will promote entrepreneurship and innovations. We will invest in vocational trainings and skill development programmes as well as promote mentorship initiatives to equip our young people with the necessary tools to prosper in this modern economy.”
“By doing so, we will unlock their potentials and enable them to become job creators rather than job seekers. We also understand the importance of infrastructural development in driving economic growth.

Governor Kefas’ plans appear promising and, if realized, would be commendable. However, it remains to be seen whether these pledges will translate into tangible actions and concrete results. Time will tell whether this promise to empower Taraba youths is mere rhetoric or a genuine commitment to effecting positive change.
