Plateau State Government Eases Curfew In Mangu LGA

The Plateau State Government has issued a statement, announcing a review of the 24-hour curfew previously imposed on Mangu Local Government Area, LGA. The new curfew will now to be observed between the hours of 7 pm to 6 am.

According to a statement signed by Bere Gyang, the Director of Press and Public Affairs, the State Security Council had resolved to relax the curfew after reviewing the situation in the LGA.

The students participating in the ongoing National Examination Council, NECO, and Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination, JSSCE had been considered while reviewing the curfew.

With this new development, movement within the local government area would be limited between 7 pm and 6 am until further notice, except for security personnel and persons on essential duties.

Security forces have been ordered to ensure complete compliance with the curfew within the period under review.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang had also reassured the residents of the state, of the determination of his administration to fulfil their constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and properties in the state.

Let’s recall that Mutfwang had on Sunday, July 9, imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area after incessant attacks led to the loss of several lives and properties in the area.

At least 13 persons have been confirmed dead in attacks within some communities in the LGA.

According to residents in the affected communities, bandits invaded Pushit and Sabon-Gari on Saturday night, while some residents were injured and houses burnt.

The state government had then ordered a 24hr curfew to prevent a reprisal attack and possible escalation of the situation.

A wise intervention by the state government. However, no mentions were made about the progress of the security forces in catching the perpetrators of the attack.

One isn’t sure if there are any plans being made to that effect. The bandits should be caught and properly dealt with, to serve as a deterrent to future assailants.
