Armed gunmen had on Monday, July 11, stormed Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing four policemen in the process.
It was reported that the officers had set up a checkpoint along Bungudu-Gusau Road when the armed bandits attacked and opened fire on them.
The spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, had confirmed this attack to Channels Television via a telephone discussion on Tuesday, July 11 morning.
It was however, not confirmed if any policeman had been killed during the attack, but Abubakar had promised to provide more information as updates dropped.
Inrahim Bungundu, a resident of the town had however, told news correspondents that at least four police officials had been killed during the attack.
Bungundu had also revealed that the cattle belonging to residents of Tagero village were additionally stolen by the bandits.
Another Bungudu town resident, Usman Bungudu, had also confirmed the attack, saying that the bandits had struck at midnight, when the policemen had been on checkpoint duty.
“The bandits just ambushed and shot at them; they ran away after killing four policemen,” he said.
