Swae Lee, a famous American singer and one-half of the hip-hop duo, Rae Sremmurd, has revealed that he is partly Nigerian.

The rapper had made the revelation via a video he posted to social media, in a bid to clarify a certain ‘triggering’ tweet he had shared on Tuesday, June 11.

In the ‘offensive’ tweet, he had added the Nigerian flag after announcing that he was jumping on the South African genre, Amapiano wave.

The tweet had not gone down well with South Africans, who flooded his comment section to accuse Swae Lee of disfavouring their country, the originator of Amapiano music, and wrongly crediting Nigeria.

On seeing this, Swae Lee had explained in follow-up tweets that his initial tweet had been misunderstood. In his explanation, he had said that he added the Nigerian flag because of his Nigerian origin.

He had then gone on to give a shout out to South Africans for creating the ‘beautiful music genre.’

One might go so far as to say that since Nigeria’s Afrobeats began appealing to music pundits worldwide, several famous celebrities have come forward to make known, their Nigerian origin.

Some of these celebrities include, Meghan Markle, John Boyega, Lil Wayne, Forest Whitaker etc.
