The Imo State Police Command has arrested 26 individuals suspected to be IPOB sit-at-home enforcers.
The suspects, apprehended on Wednesday, July 12, had been accused of randomly shooting and attacking residents celebrating a birthday in a hotel near Irete.
Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, had told newsmen in Owerri, the state’s capital, that operatives of the command’s tactical team, working in partnership with operatives of the 18 Police Mobile Force, had been dispatched to the scene after residents reported seeing IPOB members in a hotel at the Catering bus stop, Free Zone, Irete.
According to the Police Commissioner’s words:
“The IPOB and ESN illegal sit-at-home enforcers had on sighting police operatives, immediately opened fire, but they were overwhelmed by the adeptness, stiff resistance, and superior firepower of the police, which compelled them to flee to the bush with several degrees of gunshot wounds.”
One casualty was recorded from the incident, Remigius Emeka Njoku, a relative to the celebrant.
“On searching the hotel and nearby bushes, traces of blood were seen, suggesting that some of these terrorists were hit.” Barde had said.
A suspects arrested are still being investigated after which they will be prosecuted duly.
Hopefully, this will serve as a deterrent to potential lawbreakers to desist from attacking their fellow humans under the guise of protesting for freedom.
