Tesla has announced September 3, 2026, as the date for its much-anticipated Cybercab launch event in Austin, Texas.

The electric vehicle maker has begun sending invitations to selected attendees, providing the first official confirmation of the event date after previously revealing Austin as the venue without specifying when the event would take place.

Tesla described the gathering as an opportunity to “experience the future of autonomy”, suggesting that guests could get the chance to experience rides in the company’s autonomous Cybercab.

Those invited will be allowed to bring one approved guest, although Tesla specified that guests cannot be content creators. Food and refreshments will also be provided during the event.

While participants in Tesla’s earlier sweepstakes were required to be at least 18 years old, the company said attendees at the launch event must be 21 or older and will be required to present identification.

Invitees have until 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on August 30 to confirm their attendance. Tesla said further details would be sent by email after registration is approved.

The company had previously announced the Cybercab event through its Robotaxi account, but did not disclose a specific date. Under the sweepstakes arrangement, eligible riders completing qualifying trips by August 23 could earn opportunities to attend, with winners scheduled to be selected on August 25.

Tesla is expected to use the event to provide more information about its plans for autonomous transportation and the Cybercab.

The Cybercab is not expected to be Tesla’s only vehicle designed for its robotaxi programme. Following discussions with Tesla’s Investor Relations team, JPMorgan said the company had indicated that the Cybercab would be the first of several purpose-built robotaxi designs.

Tesla reportedly cited the Robovan as an example of another vehicle that could eventually join the autonomous fleet.

The company has also been limiting the number of Model Y vehicles added to its Robotaxi fleet as it prepares for the wider introduction of the Cybercab.

Meanwhile, Tesla is testing FSD V15 within its robotaxi fleet, with several areas of improvement reportedly under evaluation.

The September 3 event is expected to shed more light on the Cybercab, its autonomous-driving capabilities and the technology that will power Tesla’s next phase of robotaxi expansion.
