Moldova’s Prime Minister, Dorin Recean, announced on Friday that he had accepted the resignation of three ministers, including the Interior Minister, following a tragic shooting incident at the country’s main international airport. The incident resulted in the deaths of two security officers.

During a media briefing, Prime Minister Recean confirmed the resignations of Interior Minister Ana Revenco, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Lilia Dabija, and Science and Education Minister Anatolie Topal. However, specific reasons for their resignations were not provided.

The opposition had been demanding the resignation of Interior Minister Revenco in light of the deadly shooting that took place at Chisinau International Airport in the capital city on June 30. The shooting occurred when a 43-year-old man from Tajikistan, who was denied entry into the country, fatally shot two airport security workers. The suspect seized a guard’s weapon during his escort and used it in the attack. He was later apprehended by security forces but succumbed to his injuries.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Revenco expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the country and commended her team’s courage in maintaining peace and stability, particularly in the face of multiple crises, including the ongoing conflict in neighboring Ukraine involving Russia.

Prime Minister Recean acknowledged the contributions made by the departing ministers during their tenure and announced his plan to propose a list of potential candidates to President Maia Sandu on Monday to fill the vacant ministerial positions.
