Kenneth Okonkwo Gives His Opinion on Proposed Palliative Allowance

Nollywood actor and lawyer, Mr Kenneth Okonkwo has dubbed the Federal Government’s plan to pay impoverished Nigerian households, N8,000 monthly subsidy allowance as offensive and a means to loot government funds.

Okonkwo had made his feelings known via a post he made on his official Twitter handle on Monday, July 16.

In the tweet, Okonkwo had alleged that the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, had been arresting and detaining Nigerians without trial. A development he had labelled anti-people.

The veteran Nollywood actor had also gone further to state that the amount was grossly inadequate for indigent Nigerians who could barely afford a decent meal.

His tweet reads partly:
“A government that began its regime with a 352 Naira increase in fuel per litre, depreciated the Naira by 82% from the first day in office is now arresting and is now detaining Nigerians without trial is an anti-people government.

“Giving a Nigerian household a paltry sum of 8,000 Naira a month that cannot buy a plate of food in the present economy is not only an insult to our common sense but a formula to steal government fund in guise of poor Nigerians.

What can an average Nigerian do with 8,000 Naira per month, much less a household of about 6 individuals per month. This administration is a waste and a curse. Nigerians are just now seeing the true definition of cluelessness.”
