JUST IN: National Security Adviser In Closed-Door Meeting With South-East Leaders

The National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Nuhu Ribadu has just met with South-East Governors in Abuja on Monday, July 31.

The purpose of the closed-door session was not made known to news journalists as at the time of this report but it may be related to the increasing security challenges in Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo and Ebonyi states.

Recall that on last week Wednesday, the Senate House criticised the Monday sit-at-home in the South East geopolitical zone, urging the Federal Government to partner with the Finnish Government and extradite a pro-Biafran revolutionist, Simon Ekpa, for prosecution.

The upper chamber had also committed to inviting the relevant stakeholders as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs–when appointed, to carry out careful investigation and bring the other sponsors of the terrorism to book.

The Senate had additionally, turned down a recommendation for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, as his case still in court.

The illegal sit-at-home order is reportedly, being enforced by a faction of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the five South-Eastern states.

The unlawful order was announced in 2021 to pressure the Federal Government into releasing IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who has been and still is being detained by the Department of State Services, DSS, on the grounds of terrorism-related charges.
