Abia State Government Bans Commercial Motorcycles

Alex Otti, the Abia State Governor had ordered the ban on commercial motorcyclists aka Okada operating within Umuahia and Aba cities. 

A statement by the State Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kazie Uko, had revealed that this order would take effect immediately.

The statement read:

“The Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has ordered for the immediate ban on the operations of commercial motorcyclists (Okada) within Umuahia, the State’s capital, and Aba Metropolis respectively.”

“This ban will be taking effect as from Monday, August 14, 2023. Any motorbike seen on the roads of Umuahia and Aba towns, being used for commercial purposes will immediately be confiscated by the designated security agencies.

“Additionally, the security agencies have been instructed to arrest any persons caught breaching this order, for probable prosecution.”
