Compelling reports have emerged that the planned arraignment of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on accounts of breach of procurement laws and contract inflation has been waived indefinitely.
The arraignment on a 20-count charge had been scheduled for Wednesday, August 23, by a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory but it had not been stated on the cause list.
Reports gathered at the courtroom had revealed that the arraignment was moved at the instance of the detained CBN Chief, Emefieke.
Reliable sources had also alleged that Emefiele and his partner in crime, Saadat Yaro, had chosen a plea bargain policy in order to settle with the Federal Government.
Kehinde Akinlolu, SAN, Emefiele’s lawyer, had confirmed the shift in the arraignment, stating that a new date may probably be issued by the Chief Judge, Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf in due time.
At the time of filing this report, the Department of State Services, DSS, operatives who used to escort him (Emefiele) to court, and his legal team were conspicuously absent.
Meanwhile, the court has begun proceedings on other issues in the cause list.
