The BRICS bloc of nations has made the decision to invite six countries, namely: Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to become new members of the organisation, according to South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday, August 24.
The argument over extending the BRICS bloc (currently made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) has been the key agenda at a three-day summit in Johannesburg that will end today, Thursday, August 24.
All the BRICS members have generally given their support for growing and expanding the bloc, but there had been divisions among the nation leaders over how much and how quickly the expansion should come about.
