Phillip Shuaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has rescinded the suit he filed at the Federal High Court to prevent purported plots by the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, to oust him from office.

Shaibu, had in a memo dated September 5, 2023, cited the case with Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1027/2023 which mentioned the Inspector General of Police,–IGP, State Security Service,–SSS, the Governor of Edo State, and the Chief Judge of Edo State as defendants respectively.

The deputy governor had remarked that the decision to revoke the suit had come, after a series of meetings involving himself, Obaseki, and other well-meaning citizens of Edo and Nigerians at large who comprised of party leaders, traditional rulers, and the Archbishop of Benin Archdiocese of the Catholic Church.

“With total respect to the eminent personalities and leaders whose coaxing and persons I cannot ignore, I, Retired Honorable Comrade Philip Shaibu have authorized and instructed my Solicitors to discontinue the Suit immediately,” Shaibu had explained.

“I sincerely wish to thank and appreciate well-meaning Nigerians, Party Leaders, Traditional Rulers, and my Archbishop, His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Akubeze for their sympathetic words, advise and motivation, in ensuring peace and unity in our lovely Edo State.”

“I would also like to place on record my special thanks to Mr. Governor, my boss and senior brother for this pathway of peace.”
