Nigeria is presently witnessing a power outage after the collapse of the national grid in the early hours of Thursday, September 13, 2023.
This general collapse is coming some weeks after the Transmission Company of Nigeria–TCN, celebrated more than one year of no grid collapse, a feature that has pockmarked the Nigerian electricity sector.
In a statement by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company–EEDC, the collapse had occurred at about 12:40 a.m. which led to the loss of electricity supply presently being experienced across the network.
The short statement had read:
“Owing to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of power supply, and we are not able to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States respectively.”
Reports had gathered that electricity transmission had reduced to 273 megawatts of electricity coming from two out of the more than 27 electricity generation.
The grid collapse will be the first of its kind, under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The immediate former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s government had experienced several national grid collapses.
The TCN has yet to make a statement, as of the time of filing this report.
