The House of Representatives members have rejected a motion seeking to coerce the federal government into making the 2023/2024 secondary school examination free for all Nigerians.

The motion, proposed by Anamero Dekeri, had asked on the federal government to make WAEC, NECO and JAMB free for the current academic session, however, the lawmakers had kicked against it.

This motion is coming at a period when Nigerians have been left in shock over the action of lawmakers to spend billions of Naira in purchasing their official vehicles.

In the motion, Dekeri had remarked that the federal government had already saved up money through the removal of petroleum subsidy and therefore, should help families that are struggling.

According to the lawmaker, the Ministry of Education should make the examinations free.

Following the presentation of the motion, it was met with fierce opposition from members of the House.

Julius Ihonvbere, the Majority Leader had proposed an amendment that lawmakers should instead fund the free examination.
This amendment was however, countered by Ado Doguwa, who remarked that members were already paying the fees.

Awaji Abiante had following a long debate, suggested a motion for the House to refuse step it down, and this motion was adopted unanimously.
