Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in 3 states namely: Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states during their governorship elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, while addressing a news conference in FCT Abuja had said that the restriction would take effect as from 12:01am till 6:00pm on Saturday in the three states.
Adejobi had however, added that those on essential services were excluded from the vehicular limit on the election day.
In Adejobi’s words:
“The IGP has given ordered for the restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation as from 12:01am to 6pm on election day in the stipulated states.”
“The exception to this directive are people working as essential servicemen such as INEC officials, accredited electoral observers, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters and the media.”
“The order is part of the effort to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for the conduct of the election and it is aimed at ensuring public order management and safety of the electorate.”
