The residents of Kaduna were thrown into panic and confusion after gunmen stormed the Dan Honu community in Kaduna State, and abducted eight people.

Abducting individuals for ransom is so commonplace in northwest Nigeria, that armed gangs, often referred to as bandits, frequently target schools, villages and unsuspecting travellers.

This fact makes it highly unsafe for any individual to travel by road or to attend to their farms in certain areas.

Meanwhile, the Mansur Hassan, the police spokesperson has said that the police had begun investigating the heartbreaking incident that occurred late Tuesday in Chikum LGA of the state.

Mohammed Danjuma, a resident who was lucky to have escaped the clutches of those criminals had informed Reuters that 16 people had been targeted but eight had fortunately managed to get away.

One other resident, Malam Suleiman, who had been among the targeted 16 had escape when they were being led into the bushes.

His teenage sons were not that lucky as they were among the eight people captured by the brigands.

The incessant attacks in northern Nigeria is not surprising as it has been part of the widespread insecurity that has plagued the country.

Notable attacks of which include a 14-year Islamist insurgency in the northeast and bloody clashes between farmers and herders in the central region.
