This weekend, several customers of commercial banks in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, bemoaned poor services provided by Automated Teller Machines.

Reports from journalists have revealed that several ATMs of commercial banks were not doling out cash, causing a great inconvenience to customers.

Several banks visited were noticeably empty as was observed from Saturday through Sunday, with their ATMs bereft of customers.

Upon being queried on the situation, the customers had admitted that the situation was no different from what transpired in the first quarter of 2023.

The issue was also seen in several banks visited, located at Gbongan-Ibadan road, Oke-Fia, Station Road, and Igbona axis of Osogbo, the state capital.

Another customer, David Olayinka, had said that he had had to resort to Point Of Sale, POS agents and could sadly, not collect more than 5000.

He recounted that he needed N50,000 and had had to resort to collecting the sum from ten different POS agents because of that situation.

POS agents have themselves, also bemoaned the limit of withdrawals by commercial banks.

Some agents revealed that these banks have reduced the daily withdrawals and sought out substitute sources of cash from fuel attendants, commercial motorcyclists, and merchants.

Some banks only permit a N20,000 withdrawal limit while some only allow the low sum of N5,000.

“This is the yuletide season, and it is now that enterprises are supposed to boom, but imagine what this nightmare right now”. Olayinka had said.

Earlier this year, in February, there was a period of cash scarcity in the country. POS outlets had charged outrageously for their services as they had to endure several difficulties to obtain cash to give their potential customers.

It had been a very difficult period fir Nigerians as using the alternative means of purchasing good –cash transfer had also had its own challenges. The challenges ranged from poor network to facilitate the transfers, failure of the bank apps to open and others.
