The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for Sunday’s fatal bombing during a Catholic Mass in the southern Philippines.
The attack, which occurred at the gymnasium of Mindanao State University in Marawi, claimed the lives of at least four individuals and left 50 others injured.
Authorities report that 42 individuals sustained mostly minor wounds, and the situation is now deemed to be “under control.”
Marawi, the country’s largest Muslim city, had previously witnessed a five-month battle in 2017 between government forces and militants linked to the Islamic State group.
