The Nigeria Immigration Services, NIS, on Friday, took up a rally to caution students of secondary schools, universities and traders against erratic migration and illegal smuggling of migrants.
Mrs Caroline Adepoju, the Comptroller General of Immigration had made the warning to students and traders during a rally held to mark the Anti-smuggling of Migrants Week on Friday in FCT Abuja.
Adepoju, had been represented by the Chief Superintendent of Immigration (CSI), Mr Innocent Olowu. In her speech, she had urged the students and traders to avoid being deceived by those who might want to lure them into travelling out of the country via illegal routes.
“We at NIS made a decision to bring the message of anti-smuggling of migrants, to schools because of the number of young people who lose their lives while journeying through the Sahara desert and Mediterranean Sea.”
“We are steady losing lives and the numbers are grievous. So because of this, we thought to make a preventive measure by creating awareness of the dangers of these migrations.” Adepoju finished.
