The non-native teachers in Zamfara State have claimed that they were unfairly dismissed by the state government.
The leader of the group, who is a teacher in one of the secondary schools in Bungudu Local Government Area of the state, John Obiora, had reported that most of the non-native teachers were affected in the move.
Obiora, while speaking with journalists in Gusua said the reason for the sack by the Teachers Service Board –their employer– was not immediately revealed.
The Executive Chairman of the Board, Mohammed Aliyu Anka, had however, discarded the allegation, saying that all the non-native teachers in the state were on contract.
He added that the rules of the Board were that if it remained six months before the expiration of the teaching contract, the teacher must inform the Board for a contract renewal. To this, he said that a lot of the non-indigenous teachers failed to do so.
He also lamented that many of the non-indigenous teachers were engaged with some private schools in the state and were still collecting salaries from the state government while paying attention to the private schools.
Anka went further to point out that a lot more non-indigenous teachers were still on the payroll of the state government, so nobody’s contract could be terminated without any valid reason.
