This week has been fraught with drama from Nigerian celebrities but the one that stood out the most, and is still the most talked about is the drama surrounding veteran Nigerian actor, Emeka Ike and his ex-wife. How they came to be split up.
Recall that Mr. Ike had taken to a talk show to air his grievances with his broken up marriage with Suzanne Emma.
According to him, women were vultures and men had to keep their wits about them when they choose a life partner. He had in the same programme, debunked the allegations that he had been a wife beater in the course of their union.
However, Suzanne had granted an interview with Dave to open up and defend herself from her former husband’s accusations.
In the interview, she had said that her husband had mentally abused her.
“It all started off as torture, mental torture, it was psychological and also there was financial abuse because I was’t allowed to work.”
“He told me to quit my dreams of becoming an actor because the tabloid’s (newspaper’s) opinions on it would destroy the marriage. I was also told to stop my modelling career.”She further went on to say that Emeka Ike had no plans of marrying her and that she had to speak up and insist that she wanted to get married while she was pregnant with their second child before Mr. Ike finally got around to marrying her.”
The crux of the matter is that both parties are still aggrieved, even as they have divorced many years ago. It is also clear that Suzanne granted this interview to “clear” up her name after it was muddied by her ex-husband.
As it stands, not a single netizen cares about their revelations on why the marriage came to a crashing end. This is all fodder for gossip and to while away time.
Emeka Ike should never have washed his ‘dirty linen’ in public in the first place. Now, he has set off a chain reaction that he might not be able to control. The general public is understandably divided on this matter, with some staunchly supporting Emeka Ike, while others, mostly women are confessing their support to Suzanne Emma.
Whose side, dear reader, are you on?
