The Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, Safiyanu Isah Andaha, and three others who were previously kidnapped have been liberated.

The Spokes representative of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, had confirmed the release to Channels Television via a phone conversation on Wednesday morning.

He remarked that Andaha and the other abducted people were released at around 8:45 PM on Tuesday in Andaha’s village of Akwanga local government area.

They were set free as a result of sustained pressure from consolidated security agencies, a police spokesman had announced. This statement discredited the news that a ransom of 10 million Naira was paid to the abductors.

After their release, Andaha and the three others were taken to a hospital to receive medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi.

The chairman and three others were abducted by gunmen on Monday night in Ningo village, Akwanga Local Government Area.

Gunmen have been operating in the North-Central and North-Western parts of the country irrespective of the presence of security operatives.

Nasarawa, is one of several states in northwestern and central Nigeria persecuted by bandits who sack villages, kill and kidnap residents as well as raze homes after looting them.

The gangs hideout ranges from camps set up in a huge forest straddling Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Niger states.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made fighting insecurity a primary issue since coming to office on May 29, 2023 as he is looking to encourage foreign investment in Africa’s most populous country.
