LeBron James finally got to speak to the media on Monday, as he entered his first day with the Philadelphia 76ers since leaving the LA Lakers.
LeBron, 41, who publicly donned a Sixers jersey for the first time, spoke with reporters in Los Angeles before outlining what he hopes to accomplish in what would be his 24th NBA season, the most by any player.
James signed a reported two-year $8 million contract after a drastic pay cut from the approximately $52 million he made in his last year with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The four-time MVP said he considered five teams before he decided to join Philadelphia, where he will team up with Tyrese Maxey, with whom he already had a close relationship.
He also put to bed the speculation that this would be the last stop in his career, stating he would concentrate on being “the best person I can be” while at the same time assisting the team.
“When I play my game, it’s a blessing because I can do everything. I mean, I can do everything,” James said.
He hopes that he can bring his experience to bear with Philadelphia’s young guns, while also helping Joel Embiid contend for his first-ever NBA title.
“Don’t worry about the outside noise, just put your head down and work,” James said when addressing his new teammates. “If you wanna win a championship, you gotta have a championship mentality every single day.
It has been 40 years since Philadelphia brought home the NBA trophy, and James will try to lead the franchise back to the mountaintop.
