Globacom users will soon be unable to make calls to MTN subscribers owing to the non-settlement of interconnect charges.

The Nigerian Communications Commission– NCC had made this revelation on Monday, January 8, in a public notice signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director, Public Affairs Department.

It revealed that it granted limited approval for the disconnection of Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.

NCC also stated that Globacom was informed of the application made by MTN and was offered the opportunity to comment and plead its case.

“The commission, having investigated the application and circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, have come to the conclusion that Globacom did not have enough or justifiable reason for not paying the interconnect charges.”

NCC also revealed that at the end of 10 days from the date it issued its notice, “subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to place calls to MTN but will however, be able to receive calls.

This is not the first time Glo subscribers will be disconnected from dialling MTN customers over the same issue.

According to an unverified source in MTN, Glo owes the firm about N6 billion for interconnect fees.

Efforts to get Glo’s reaction are still in progress as the firm has yet to make a comment on the issue.

As at the end of August 2023, there were 61.39 mobile subscriptions on Glo’s network.

Finally, the NCC notice announced Glo lines will not be able to make calls to MTN lines as from January 18, 2024.
